چکیده

Methods Imaging studies and device records for 45 consecutive patients with an ICD undergoing cardiac MRI were reviewed. Generator artifact diameter was measured on axial dark-blood sequences when available and compared among device manufacturers. In 28 of these patients who had available chest x-rays, minimum distance of the generator from the heart border was measured and compared to the distance from the aortomitral continuity to the border of the artifact on short axis TurboFLASH cine images at the level of the mitral valve plane. One patient whose generator had been moved from the left to right side between CXR and MRI was excluded.

Safety of magnetic resonance imaging in patients with implanted cardiac prostheses and metallic cardiovascular electronic devices.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with implanted cardiac prostheses and metallic cardiovascular electronic devices is sometimes a risky procedure. Thus MRI in these patients should be performed when it is the only examination able to help with the diagnosis. Moreover the diagnostic benefit must outweigh the risks. Coronary artery stents, prosthetic cardiac valves, metal sternal sutur...

Artifact reduction with a wideband late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) MRI technique for patients with implanted cardiac devices: a two-center study

Background Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiac MRI is the clinical gold standard for non-invasive characterization of myocardial scar [1]. However, up to 75% of patients who may benefit from LGE MRI have preexisting implanted cardiac devices such as implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) and pacemakers (PM) [2]. The presence of an ICD produces hyper-intensity (HI) image artifacts i...

Performing magnetic resonance imaging in patients with implantable pacemakers and defibrillators: results of a European Heart Rhythm Association survey.

The purpose of our survey was to evaluate the experience, current practice and attitudes of performing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices. Fifty-one centre-members of European Heart Rhythm Association Research network have responded to the survey. According to the obtained data, 55.2% of responding centres do not perform MRI scans in...

Experience with cardiac MR imaging of patients with legacy ICDs or pacemakers

Background Previously, non-MR compatible pacemakers (PM) and cardiac defibrillators (ICDs) have been considered contraindication for MRI scanning. Device failure, lead tip heating, and patient discomfort have been of concern. Few institutions are currently scanning patients with these devices due to these concerns or lack of monitoring support. Additionally, cardiac imaging has been a unique ch...

The Evaluation of Survival in Patients Who Need Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) after Cardiac Surgery

Introduction: Insome cases, assist devices are required to ensure an adequate cardiac output after cardiac surgery. Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) is the most commonly used cardiac assist device, which provides first-line support for patients with heart failure. The aim of this study was to determine factors affecting the mortality rate of patients receiving IABP. Materials & Methods:  In thi...
